New Students

Welcome to the new students page of the Faculty of Computer Science!

This page gives you a summary of the most important ways of finding out information at the beginning of your course at the Faculty of Computer Science (FIN). Another important starting point for you is the first semester students page by the Faculty Student Council. This provides up-to-date information and is an ideal preparation for studying in our faculty. There is also an alternative student guide (2014) which gives an insight into our faculty and everything related to it.

Introductory Days

Moving to a new life is always difficult. To make it easier for you, the university offers Introductory Days to introduce you to the courses and the university. The Faculty Student Council also organises a programme of events to make starting life at the University and the city of Magdeburg easier. This includes, for example, a campus tour.

The mentor scheme

As soon as you start studying at FIN, you will be assigned a student from a later semester to help and support you as part of our mentor scheme. With us, you do not need to be nervous about starting life as a student. You can find out more about the mentor scheme on the Faculty Student Council website. You can also sign up for the program in the introductory week before the semester begins.

The preliminary courses

Even before your course really gets going, you have the option of attending preliminary courses in mathematics and programming. These courses aim to make it easier for you to adapt to studying and break down any potential obstacles.
