Based on my experience, i have witnessed this and this behavior resulted in a separate grade for a teammate . We should be punctual with the timely submissions and meetings . If not, atleast it is a courtesy to inform beforehand.
It’s not about the minutes lost, but about trust and respect. Chronic lateness undermines teamwork, frustrates colleagues, and leaves a lasting impression on authority figures who may see you as undependable. The cultural context (Germany) amplifies this, where punctuality is highly valued.
Everyone’s been late at some point for some appointment — it happens 😕. What matters most is communicating the reason honestly and taking responsibility! One should never expect that people will just get used to it. People will not!. My impression of such cases was often "I think I might be wasting time here!". Being on time really does make a difference in Germany, probably specially, and elsewhere in general. When we make an effort to be punctual, we show that we value other people’s time and commitments as much as "our own". The opposite of doing so indicates disrespectful and unprofessional behavior. Something as simple as being on time may have significant effects on our FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES. I truly mean that. People want to deal with other people that are reliable and trustworthy; they do not want to have the impression that they are wasting their time. That extends beyond just student-supervisor relationship
